headers???

I have an oppertunity to buy some headers for my LO3 and I have a coule of ?'s and I hope yall can help. me

What are the best performance goals of the LO3, no cat, hi-flo muffler, 2.5in pipe with headers instead of the stock manifolds?

what are the best ones for clearances? (spark plugs)

I heard that they have a tendancy to come loose and have to be tightened constantly is this true?

clearance for tightening exhaust bolts?

I know these seem like rookie ?'s but would someone please help me. A guy on my job has some for $150 I will try to find out what kind by the end of the week.

Re: headers???

1) you need to make sure they are specifically for the 3rd gen F body car. No other headers will fit. Headers have to match the car, not the motor - in the old days not so much of an issue, but in these cars, stuff gets in the way (like steering linkage).

2) You might notice a tad of gains with exhaust, but will be minimal. The biggest advantage is easier access to the spark plugs

3) If you use Dead Soft or similar brand thick aluminum gaskets, and good header bolts, you won't have any issues with exhaust leaks or retightening.

4) on a few of the header bolts, you sometimes have to get creative - not all the bolts will accept a socket due to space confinements with tubes, but a wrench will get in there.

5) if it's headers ONLY - skip it - you need the headers AND the Y-pipe made for the those headers. If no Y pipe included, you might as well just buy new from Summit, because $150 is no great deal on headers only.

Re: headers???

Pretty much what Camaronewbie said.

Also, count in that most headers will require 90° sockets on the sparkplugs if you´re still running the stock heads or other non-angle-plug heads.

For $150 they better be ceramic coated, if not, you´ll be able to find better deals out there.
