They say they say they say.
They say you cant fit long tube headers on a thirdgen well, got mine, only headman nothing fancy, they fit. Now has anyone yet to fit an x-pipe in there car?

I am looking to fit this under. Yes the headers go pretty darn close to the under body but i feel i can use like an S pipe to make it just a tad lower. Car is auto right now but in future I plan to throw a Muncie in then much later a T5. Could this possibly be done? Even if it consist of fab work?
Thanks in advance!

Re: They say they say they say.
I've got an 87 5.7 and I took it to an exhaust race specialist here and he said he couldn't do it. I also have the smog legal headman's. He put on a 3" pipe from the headers back to a flow master muffler. He puts on exhaust systems for race teams and he said the system he put on was really close to being as good as a duel system. I can try and get some pics if you would like. This guy actually autographs his work with a brass plate on the muffler. I am also in California so applications are really strict here.

Re: They say they say they say.
I've seen LOTS of 3rd gens with Gen 1 SBCs here oin TGO with long tubes & an X-pipe. And virtually every LSx swap I see has long tubes. And some of those LS 3rd gens have X-pipes.
Long tubes, with or without X-pipes, is not that unusual. I do notice that virtually every one uses oval exhaust for the drivers side to get under the tranny crossmember.

Yes you can put the x-pipe right after the crossmember. But to make it work and have good clearance you are going to have to fab a new crossmember. Its according to how determined you are to make it work. I made my x-pipe too. I will get some pics if you want.
