The ''Sweet'' spot for placing O2 Bung?

Well I picked up a new set of Hedman Longtubes 68469s. Which are similar to the 68460s but with D ports (LT1 Swap). Now these don't have o2 bungs as you know but I originally planned to just have them welded in like always have on the collector, but I have seen what local shops do here and would rather have them ugly weld it on a reducer I am adapting to my Y pipe for ball and socket flange.

So that brings me up to my question, how far is too far? I would like to move it about what, 3-5 inches down onto the y pipe.

These are heated o2s for those wondering.
