Exhaust help

I have an 85 camaro. 383 bored 30, roller rocker double humped, the previous owner was running straight headers, then attached 2 straight pipes, no cats or mufflers. It sound mean and is loud as all get out. But I live on a military base and work the night shift (get home around midnight) all my neighbors don't seem to like the sound all that much, an it wakes my newborn when I get home, what is a cheap not as loud and decent sounding alternative. Keep in mind CHEAP. Could I go to a junk yard an just pull a stock setup and modify it to work? Or would that screw up the performance of my engine?

Re: Exhaust help

Nope. I think your heads do that for ya.. J/K the heads you have work okish but there are waaaaaaay better heads than those.
There are many ways to go for your exhaust but not many are cheap.

Re: Exhaust help

Nothing cheap unless you can find someone to attach a couple of mufflers to your straight pipes. That's the cheap way. I imagine your ground clearance is pretty bad too.

You need some good shorties/y-pipe and a 3 inch catback. Hooker 2055's are the best shorties because they have the best y-pipe available. They come as a big set. That plus a Flowmaster American Thunder catback pn 17151 should get you rolling. You can go cheaper on the shorties and get something that's not as nice if you want.

Re: Exhaust help

What muffler/ cat setup should I use? I can weld and have a pipe bender accessible so I could fab an exhaust for little to nothin, just gotta buy the muffler and cat. Don't really need a cat bc I'm in fl and there's no emission laws. But I'm guessing it would sound stupid with jus muffler? I know I sound stupid. I've always ran straight pipes on my trucks but idk if I wanna keep it on the car?

Re: Exhaust help

Do you by chance have a link to the hooker pipes? I couldn't find it?

Re: Exhaust help

just put some cheap Flowmasters in, like their super 40, that will quiet it down enough but still sound good
