In a rough spot NEED HEADER ADVICE PLEASE.

Alright so I began disassembling my 87 IROC with the 350. Manifolds off, exhaust piping out. The headers I have do not fit...they are 1 inch off an I would rather not begin cutting my car up.

I have only $400 to buy a new set of headers. :/

I was thinking these.

I only have 2 weeks to do this before school starts up again and im out a car until I find time to work on it.

Also. Im going true dual 2.5 inch with Classic chambered powersticks in the back.

Sorry fellas just ordered them last night. I would have liked to ordered Dyno Don's but I do not have time to wait for them.

Re: In a rough spot NEED HEADER ADVICE PLEASE.

You're gonna need a y-pipe for them... The 2055's you coudl've gotten are more expensive but include a y-pipe that will bolt up to your catback.

But if you're just going to do duals, how come you didnt get some Hedman 68460 long tubes? They're $200.

I dont recommend true duals, except for special circumstances, but if you're bound and determined to build some, might as well go with some long tubes.

Im not going longtube and then straight back and kill my ground clearance (I have awful roads and speed bumps around here). I am running the duals side by side like the stock routing. I already have them mocked up, X pipe where the cat went, and chambered mufflered side by side where the stock muffler was. I am pretty much done besides waiting for the headers :/.

I do plan on doing ALOT more mods to this thing when summer comes around but I figure I could knock out the exhaust during my christmas break.

Re: In a rough spot NEED HEADER ADVICE PLEASE.

I applaud your work in mocking them up and so forth, but after the crossover there's really no advantage whatsoever to duals. The disadvantage of duals is that you need a crossover - the more effective the crossover the better, hence X-pipes are preferred to H-pipes etc. The perfect crossover is just.... a single pipe. Size a single properly and it's easier and cheaper and better than a tiny overwrought dual system going through a million tiny bends trying to stay out of its own way. I suppose it might sound better though?

The most important part is getting the two banks Y'd together well.

In any case, those 2460s are heavier gauge steel than the 2055's, so you made the right choice if you're basically making your own y-pipe. The Hooker y-pipe for the 2460s is why no one recommends them.
