Headers or not

I am installing a 330Hp Vortec 350 in my Camaro and I have some questions about exhaust.
Do I need headers?
What size and brand should I get?
Is Summit as good as the rest?
Should I keep the A.I.R. system? There's no smog where I live.
What size exhaust should I get?
Should I keep the CAT?
Should I replace it?
What abbout the muffler.
Rite now I am looking at a set of Stainless Steel ones on eBay and there only $140. Otherwise I have my eye on Flow Tech smog ones. It would save me a buck to remove the smog pump.
If some one out there could give a brother some advice that would be great. I reley on this form to get me through this build.

Re: Headers or not

Headers would be a great idea. Removing the smog ii=s good but you will need to get a different cat because the stock cat needs the air injection. Summitt are alright but i do not like flowtech. Personal opinion i guess

Re: Headers or not

You will need a good flowing exhaust to get your 330hp number. This includes headers and back. One of the favorites around here are the Hooker 2055 with the matching y-pipe. Then a 3 in cat back of your choice. They are pricey but most nice exhaust systems usually run close to a $1000 for it all unless you build it yourself. Hedman 68460 are long tubes and are quite affordable. However, they can require some massaging to install. And long tubes can make the rest of the exhaust routing slightly more difficult.

Re: Headers or not

Here's the direct-fit system I'm using on my 350 HO Deluxe (350/330):

Hooker 2055's (Jeg's 520-2055). Catco high-flow converter (Summit CTO-9118). Hooker catback (Summit HOK-16823HKR).

Re: Headers or not

Yes, you will need headers as Vortec heads are missing one bolt hole that stock exhaust manifolds require. Any set of thirdgen f-body SBC headers will be fine and bolt to Vortec heads.

Keep the AIR system and AIR pump. Its a federal offense to remove them, and who knows, eventually your state may start doing emissions tests in the future.
