Exhaust Delima

I have a 1986 IROC Z28 with a stock 305 4BBL. I posted in the carb section and was told to get the Hooker 2055HKR headers. I am old school and haven;t done any work on cars in 30 years. Back in the day, we just ripped off the old single exhaust system, put headers on and ran duels out to the rear into two mufflers and called it the day. I spoke with an exhaust shop and was told that unless I put the CAT on, they will not touch it. The question is, is it better to run the headers into a single cat and single set of pipes into one muffler, then have the duel outs on that? Or buy two cats, etc. I have it tagged as a classic so it really has no emmissions testing to worry about.

If emissions aren't a concern, a good set of headers, a straight pipe in place of the cat and a good single 3" catback will be all the exhaust you'll ever need up to at least 400HP. The Hookers are a good choice. Dyno Dons are even better albeit a little pricey.
