Making a new trans-member for y-pipe

Here is my attempt at making my own trans-member so that I can make my y-pipe fit. Going with 3" oval pipe into a single 4".

I am using 3/16 angle-iron and 3/16 flat steel.

As you can see, I am going to have lots of clearance so I can tilt the oval pipes upward to get even more clearance

Here is what the pipes look like from the side, if I tilt them up, there will be lots of clearance.

Re: Making a new trans-member for y-pipe

Here is my almost finished trans crossmember.
I have to make a few gussets.

Then I have to cut the oval pipes, to angle them up and closer to the th350 trans pan for more clearance .

So I'll have a 3" y-pipe to a single 4" over the axle.

looks good, I noticed the princess auto jack stands and took a look and seen you were from Winnipeg, local guy! Is that a aluminum trans crossmember?

The crossmember is now complete. I decided to cut the frame to get more clearance so I had to cut and re-weld the crossmember again.

So at my lowest point I have about 3-3.5" of clearance.
Maybe some day down the road, I may even try to go true duals with the oval pipe.
With a 3" oval pipe, I save about .75" of height compared to a 3" round pipe.
