I just want to clarify, as I wasn't finding a solid answer with searches. I want to do headers on my Camaro and from what I see it's between the Hooker 2055's and the 2460's and the only difference is the A.I.R. tubes on top. If I understand the A.I.R. tubes and smog pump correctly, they are used to help heat up the cat to get it to the right temp so it will work better. I shouldn't need that as I have swapped out the old cat and there is no extra tubes running to the new one. From what I have read, the Carb seems to need the A.I.R. tubes for F/A mix (please correct me if I'm wrong here as I have no clue about this stuff). Sorry if this has been asked time and time again, I searched with no solid answer.

I don't have specific experience with your question, but a lot of people have removed their AIR system without adverse affects.
As long as you don't have emissions testing that includes a visual inspection, you should be fine.
If removing the AIR system has a negative affect relating to the A/f mixture, someone experienced with carb tuning(specifically the Quadrajet) should have no issue tuning back to the proper specs.

I just recently removed my A.I.R stuff (smog pump, diverter, tubes and what not) and put Hedman headers on. I have TPI so I'm not sure if this will help you but I have no effects from doing this. I noticed that my car actually runs a lot better now. I'm sure you will be okay by doing this if my car being a computer controlled engine is okay with it. Try searching Removing A.I.R components and you may find posts of people with carbed cars that removed them. Good luck!

Most every post I have read usuall involves a tbi or tpi engine, I think five7kid mentioned something about carbs being different so that's why I was worried. I wouldn't mind removing yhe smog pump but I want to make sure it won't bite me in the *** laterOriginally Posted by bdle

My car is old enough to not need testing but the last time it went through it passed with just the cat. No EGR or air anymore. Also a untuned 355 which was unreal. Still surprised it passed with that motor.
There are tons of carbed cars running around without air. Even though you have a computer controled carb, removing the air should not effect it in any adverse way. As far as i know the two are separate systems.
