Re: SLP LM2 or Magnaflow cat back

A close friend of mine has a Magnaflow catback with Hooker 2055's and no cat. Even after he did heads/cam/intake it still sounds pretty tame compared to my LB9 with an SLP Loudmouth 2 and Dyno Don Headers with no cats. I honestly haven't heard a better exhaust set-up in person on a third gen and its always the first compliment I receive everywhere I go. I think I may have video clips of both of our cars.

Sounds llike the problem right their....also what motor does he have? That pays the biggest part in how a car or rather a motor sounds.

Tone (of the sound) and volume are two different aspects of the exhaust note of a car, having a Magnaflow system on my GTA, I can say that the tone is very nice - but it is not obnoxiously loud (a good thing).

Keep in mind that every car will sound a little different with the same exhaust - a 305 will be slightly different than a 350, same for an auto vs. manual, and also loudness depends on how much air is going through the system in most cases. My Camaro with the 3.5" mufflex cat back is 6 to 8db louder with the nitrous than it is on the motor only as an example - tone is pretty much the same.

This isnt the best video as the car wasnt tuned yet but it has exactly what you are wanting. Even hast 2 3inch cats in the y pipe too

Re: SLP LM2 or Magnaflow cat back

Wait till you see it project as its just a little too loud for some people and they drive white and black cars. Even im getting tired of it as I dont want the attention. Never mind pulling into a parking lot metalhead heard me from 6 blocks away and that was at 7pm. In the middle of the night LOL OMG its awsome to **** off the neighbours

He has an LO3 with Vortec Heads, Summit Single plane intake, and a Voodoo cam with 211/219 duration and a little over .500" lift @.050

mines a stock LB9.

Re: SLP LM2 or Magnaflow cat back

Flowmaster cross flow 80 series.
As was mentioned before each car depending on there setup with the same muffler can sound slightly different. This is not my car but does have the Flowmaster 80 series sound.

Re: SLP LM2 or Magnaflow cat back

thanks for posting up some vids. 6six6 and paul_huryk your cars both sound great the magnaflow seems to me to have a better tone to it but the slp sounds more aggressive.

Re: SLP LM2 or Magnaflow cat back

I actually have both on the same set up (lo3 no cat) and I prefer the magnaflow. The lm2 is just really loud. It does have a very unique sound to it, it is just surprisingly loud. The magnaflow is pretty tame at idle but gets loud at WOT. It also has a nice tone

Re: SLP LM2 or Magnaflow cat back

I went with the SLP set-up including SLP headers. It has a real deep throaty sound to it which is what I was looking for.

Re: SLP LM2 or Magnaflow cat back

I guess "loud" is a relative term. I work at a race track so if I need to plug my ears or else it hurts, its "loud." My car isnt that loud in comparison to many other street cars. I forget the exact number but I'm a little over 93dB under WOT 50' from the track side. I've heard plenty of mild street cars at or over 100dB. a magnaflow equipped 3rd gen is around 86dB. You can barely hear it down track.
