side pipes...possible what you guys think

okay so I got a 91 firebird that I am about to put some new fenders on the are the pre 90 fenders with the cut outs and since I don't have the plastic things to put in there I want see if I can make my exhaust come out of it and run side pipes. is what I had in mind is cutting the y-pipe where it is now putting an x-pipe of possible then having it come through and out the fenders then done the sides where I attach some purple horny's. you guys think it will work? I have seen a camaro online that has the coming from underneath the car but I think it would look pretty bad *** if the came shooting outta the fender and a whole easy and cheaper to make work.

Until someone brands their leg on the hot pipe while getting out of the car.

Re: side pipes...possible what you guys think

I love side pipes but not on a 3rd gen.

Is it possible? Anything is possible but that is a major structural area. Unless you do some reinforcement you are going to turn your car into junk

Re: side pipes...possible what you guys think

The area behind the fender that you'd have to cut through to get the pipe through is where the cowl, back of the strut tower, "frame rail" and inner fender support come together. On the passenger side it is also where the main wiring harness comes through.

Just don't think it's worth the money, be different or "cool" factor.

Re: side pipes...possible what you guys think

I originally was thinking about just doing the x-pipe and then dumping it out the fender hole but I think that would be to loud for street use but for track that might work

Just do a clean well though out exhaust. Also cut outs are pointless on street cars, but hey it is your car.

I found this picture of one with side pipes. I know it's not a firebird but its the only third gen I've found with sidepipes so far.

Re: side pipes...possible what you guys think

doesn't look to bad but the those rims I think it would look cool to have colored glass packs out there ether some cherry bombs or some purple horny's I like color down low. the more I think about the ground clearance is really low and I have all that plastic GFX that would melt pretty easily I might do it on my 85 T/A though it doesn;t have as much ground effects.

Re: side pipes...possible what you guys think

Well, basically sidepipes ARE possible. We used to have a third gen T/A cruising around our city and it looked quite good.
I'm just not sure whether you'd be able to route anything through the fenders, due to restrictions mentioned by other members further up this thread.

S-bend to where??? Yea, the stock vent locations get it through the fenders, but that doesn't get you through the inner structure and into the engine compartment...

My 87 had side pipes on it when I bought it. It was pretty much duct taped together. It was terrible. He used flex pipe straight off the headers and put them right onto the side pipe inlet. Off the headers he made a over 90 degree angle. Not to mention the side pipes were drilled into the ground effect destroying the one side.

Not enough chrome on an IROC to have those on.
