89 help

Alright so for the last few weeks ive been messing with my 89 rs.
It has a 305 TBI with 700r4 of course. I undertand how weak this motor is but im keeping it in because it is the original..
anyway, I have replaced distributor, coil, plugs, wires, MAP sensor, Coolant temp sensor, fuel pressure regulator, and a couple other things.
A year ago I put a brand new exhaust on it and it ran fine for a while. then it stopped. well recently I cut a hole in it right before the cat to see if that was the issue it didn't seem to be. we got it running fine so we welded the hole back together. its stopped working so we thought maybe the cat was clogged. so we cut it off yesterday and it ran fine again. just less responsive of course. so we welded a straight pipe in it. well now im having problems again..

Also for timing we put a wire from a to b to bypass the comp and we timed it perfectly. so that should not be an issue.
anyone got any ideas? of what I can do or should do?

I don't think it's the exhaust causing the problem.

What do you mean it won't run? Like you crank it and it wont ever get going or does it idle, spudder and die?

Re: 89 help

i dont think its a good idea to drive around with a & b connected?

have you checked to see if it spits out any trouble codes? that would be the easiest thing.
