Hello, the other day I had a Flowmaster Super 10 3" cat-back installed. My question is, would replacing the stock converter with a test pipe make a significant improvement with the sound, for the better? I will be able to pass inspection, so that isn't an issue. I'm primarily concerned with how the sound of the exhaust will end up, as I don't want it to end up really raspy and trashy sounding. I will link a video as to what my setup sounds like as of now. I lost my cats a short time ago. I had the factory duals so it is a bit different than yours. The sound quality definitely improved being less restricted and it is a good bit louder now. If they arent required for inspections I would remove the cat. Everyone that has heard my car even some buddies who aren't into V8 junk like the sound.

 

Yes it will be much louder, Think of the cat as a stock muffler (as far as sound goes). There are two types of converters, Steel (Think of Steel Wool mashed in a can and then blown through) and Ceramic (Its like Honeycombs, 1x1m, The Ceramic is 0.5mm thick) Both flow horribly.

If you want it loud Test pipe it,
Mine is 3,5in back y'd it at the back and have 2 10series with camaro tips and it sounds great. Cant wait till i back half it and put true 3in duals for 650hp

 

Will it increase the volume without making it unnecessarily raspy? As long as it's a good sounding loud that's deep, I'll definitely do it. I am only on stock manifolds for the time being, I will get headers down the line.

 

Headers and a test pipe will change your sound dramatically. Raspy is going to depend on your muffler choice.

 

It already sounds trashy, it's a crapmaster. Removing the cat will mostly just make it louder.
