Got a local quote for a new exhaust. Looking for some advice.

Took my 1982 Camaro Berlinetta with a crate 350 to a (the only) local muffler shop to get a quote for a whole new exhaust.

He quoted me about $425 parts and labor for replacing the exhaust with a new Magnaflow system. No cat, straight-through dual outlet muffler, and I think he said he'd recommend 3" into the muffler and 2 x 2.5" out the muffler. The $425 does not include the tips since he said there's many to choose from with a variety of prices. I forgot to ask if it's all stainless or not, but I assume it is.

What do you think? Is this reasonable?

I've never had any exhaust work done before so I don't know what to expect. The exhaust on the car now is I think a Flowmaster and it's a piece of ****. It's rattly as hell and rubbing up against the diff and/or drive shaft. I think the previous owner installed the current system and it's not done well.

Thanks for your time!

Note: My car has aftermarket headers but I haven't yet checked to see what size they are.

That sounds reasonable, especially if you don't have a lift.

Sounds very reasonable for stainless but probably was a quote for aluminized which still is a pretty good deal.

Do you think I should spend the extra for stainless or is it not really worth it? Aluminized steel will withstand and reflect heat better, but I guess it doesn't really matter for exhaust.

Also, what do you think about the 3" diameter piping for a cammed 350?

Last year, my Flowmaster (for '91 RS) was $300, including tailpipes; but didn't include catalytic converter.

From headers back that sounds reasonable. All mandrel bent?
