4th gen headers on a my 87 Firebird
So i got a set of free 4th gen LT1 Pacesetter long tube headers and after hours of debating i thought about atleast trying to use them. the motor and transmission were out so i did an imaginary mock up. looked like a close, very tight fit but they just might work with a lil bit of tweaking. i did screw up, i left the o2 sensors from the Lt1 in, now i have to take them out to get them to go past the transmission pan. to be continued......

No, it doesn't work without modification. if it did, all of the LSX guys would be running 4th gen headers.
Instead, they are either going manifold, or the expensive swap headers.
For an LT1, just run thirdgen headers, the LT1 is dimensionally the same as a SBC. I'm running the Hooker 2210 LT's with my swap. It does require relocating the knock sensor to the driver side, as well as re-routing the brake lines on the K-member.

they were really close to fitting if i wouldnt of been in a big hurry i would of lifted the motor and trans out.. and bolted the headers to the motor and streched them down about 2 inches they would of worked. but i ended bolting the engine in and the headers needed about an inch just to bolt up. i spent a few hours trying to make them work, they just wouldnt work without tweaking and at the time i was in a hurry so i didnt even mess with them. in the end i had to cut them out and wasted a bunch of time on them. but if you have more time than money you could heat them up and bend them down a bit and i think they'd work as long as you use a smaller filter.

i ended up using a Flowtech shorties and Y pipe. i wouldnt recommend the y pipe, the design of the headers make the passenger side back 2 bolts very much a pain in the rear. if you want long tubes then i suggest Hedman #68460. just put a set on a LT1 6 speed car and really didn have much trouble. and it did cost about $85 to have the exhaust shop a few towns over to make a y pipe but other than that it wasnt bad.

thanks guys... looks like ill sell mine and buy some for a third gen.. I don't want to have to modify that much for headers when they can be had pretty cheap

My 2210 LTs are much easier to do the plugs and wires on than my 2055 Shorties ever were.
Yes, it was a slight pain to make them fit initially. But now that they are in? Its really easy to get them in and out of the car. And I can finally do the plugs in about 20 minutes. With the 2055's it was a 1hr job minimum. The reason being that in order to get the plugs out, you had to loosen the headers and get them about a half inch clear of the head, just to get the room to even put a socket on them.
The 2210LTs don't make me mess with those. All I have to do is use a shortened 5/8th plug socket, and a 3/4" wrench to turn them.
