Hawks headers and 4L60E

Hey guys,

I'm doing an LS1 swap with the auto tranny into my 92 Z28. Any one who has done this swap please chime in if you know the answer to this.

I'm looking to get the 1 3/4 headers with the 3in collectors. I need to know if there is enough clearance between the headers and the tranny pan if I was looking to do a Y pipe that wrapped around it? I was told on a T56 it's not a problem because the pan is much narrower but the auto is a different story.

I'm looking to avoid running the exhaust under because of ground clearance.
Car will also run cats if that helps because I have to pass emissions.

Any help is appreciated especially if you have this exact same configuration. Anyone with pictures please post them.

Thanks

I have hawks 1 3/4 headers with 3in collectors. I have some pretty good pics showing the headers before and after the y-pipe was hooked up to give you a good idea of how they will sit in relation to the transmission and frame. I used 3 bolt flanges on mine, the passenger side was too close to the frame so I put a slight bend in it. The pipe is reduced to 2.5in. right after the header, you could fit 3in without much issue. I have 3.5in mufflex system after the Y pipe.

Nice job, jbenge.
Like you said, the problem is the pass side.
I made the trans cross-member attach side-to-side to free up room and even slightly scalloped the frame rail to keep it up tight and have room. I had to section the pipe, too (but the alignment shop crunched the pipe anyway ). In the thumbnail, black is where I sectioned, red where I scalloped, and green where I x-member attached.

I guess I should get around to POR-15 this weekend.

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies as well as the detailed pictures. I feel much better now that I can see whats been done to accomodate the tight fit.

Cheers!
