I'd have to recommend the Hooker cat-back. To me sounds better than flowmaster, comes with dual tips (looks better than flowmaster), and as far as flow, the hooker cat-back flows better than flowmaster. I don't know much about glass packs, I have heard a soundclip of one and it sounded mean. The Hooker cat-back is also cheaper than the flowmaster. I bought the cheapest one $200 and had it welded on.
I've got an 88 TBI 305 car myself. When i had my cat-back done, I stuck with 2.5" pipe because going all 3" would've cost me about another $150. I cut my muffeler off with a hacksaw the morning before i drove it down to the muffeler shop, right after the axel (it was about to FALL OFF anyway) and even without one on there, wasn't that loud.
With the flow 80 on, i can hear it start up in my driveway in the morning if somones moving it, but its not ever annoyingly loud. Not even close.
A guy I know with a 92 RS has Headers, no cat, and a flow 80 and its a little louder, but still not really that noisy. Performance sounding though. He also has stock style "hideaway" tips though while mine are straight out the back. That seems louder for some reason.
I've head guys cut it off right after the cat though and it was freakin loud to the point of being annoying. Anyway, no matter what muffler you put on its only going to be *so* loud. If you want people to hear it coming 2 blocks away, you want headers, no cat, and straight pipes. Ok I'm rambling now.... But anyway, hollow your cat if you want it louder! Headers = volume increase as well.
BTW this picture was back in July, before the blackouts and new tires.
