my friend has a 95 short bed regular cab z71 with 3 inch straight pipes, (still has a cat). he wants to light the exhaust and frankly I would too, 12 volts isn't enough to light a spark plug, and we don't have the money to buy the 400 dollar kits. I don't know what else to try. I'm not gonna splice a spark plug wire either.

the old school (non-propane) way to do it is to have full straightpipe(s) (no cat no muffler). The pipes should also be relatively small to have a large velocity. The carb would also be rich. The extra gas would be lit with sparkplugs. That's the jist of it.

Go here: www.tailpipeflames.com They make kits for fuel injected cars that don't mess with the computer or cat. Plus their only $80.
