What gasket is best for 3 Gen stainless SLP headers

Just got hold of a pretty decent set of used stainless SLP"s with air tubes for my 3rd Gen. I will get them blasted and ceramic coated. Any suggestions for gaskets?

Re: What gasket is best for 3 Gen stainless SLP headers

When I got mine YEARS ago....I used what they came with, and had no issues. I have heard that since the SLPs two outer primaries are not connected via a flange to two inner primaries, sometimes over the years they can slightly warp and cause issues. I haven't seen this, however I'm currently assembling a new engine, got the headers stripped and recoated, and I chose Remflex gaskets. They're thick, and on naturally aspirated engines, supposedly great for potential leaks, and uneven primaries. Little pricey, but I went with them because of the reviews. ...on Turbo/Blower motors, people seem to be not as happy, so if you read up, keep that in mind.

Felpro 1404 or 1405 is what I use/used after the original slp (they are oem corvette L98 gaskets) wore out from being on 8 different motors.
They are graphite and constructed with similar materials as the oem vet stuff. Plus they are one piece and easier to install.

So what's the difference between the two numbers or is it that you just didn't know which one you used for sure?

Exhaust port size is the difference. I think 1404 is for stock heads and the 1405 is for a bit larger.

what would be "a bit larger"? You mean a different head?

The difference in the 2 are the 1405s are 1.55 square port and the 1404s are 1.50.

I use the stock L98 Corvette individual port gaskets; I think it looks cleaner. They're not to difficult to install even with warped SLP headers. You just need to get a couple of these turnbuckle things:

Those spreaders are handy. I used to use the vet gaskets as well but they have been disc. A few are still in stock but the prices are outrageous at the stealership.
If you want or need to, you can cut the center connectors out of the felpro gaskets, I have done that too.

I use the stock paper one side- foil on the other gaskets, two, back to back, red silicone gluing them together. Then I put red silicone on both foil surfaces, let skin, and install. I've had no issues for three years with sealing. I even find loose bolts from time to time, but no ticks from leaks. Your mileage may vary, as I don't drive my car at 10/10ths all the time.

Re: What gasket is best for 3 Gen stainless SLP headers

does anyone know what size bolts I'll need. The headers seem to have some weird mounting points.

Re: What gasket is best for 3 Gen stainless SLP headers

The holes with the standoffs use the factory bolts in those locations and then just small head 12pt 1" long header bolts.
