Muffler Finally Rotted Out

I have an excuse now to get a new muffler. Took the car to get smog checked and noticed the left tail pipe rusted out and is just being held by the support hangar.

So many choices on mufflers out there and I've done the research on the good and the bad. Leaning towards Magnaflow but not too sure about the stick fit and finish. Btw, I'm going with the 3" intermediate with dual 2.5 exhaust tips. Any other muffler brands I should be looking at that I may have missed besides the usual Flowmaster?

+1 on Black Widow.

I am gonna run them on my car when it's finished. They have a clear but throaty sound and none of the tinny sound that flowmasters give.

I'm for magnaflow. They last a longer than most in that price range and aren't very loud. I hate crazy loud pipes anyway, they make your car look slow when you take off.

Black widow exaust has stainless and sounds the best out of all. Many different sizes so it doesn't have to be loud.

Re: Muffler Finally Rotted Out

My next muffler will be a black widow. I have a flowmaster 40 series on it now from the previous owner and it sounded pretty damn good before the y pipe cracked lol. most people on here dislike flowmaster though.

Re: Muffler Finally Rotted Out

I went ahead and ordered the Magnaflow 12267 non-polished muffler and Dynomax exhaust tips to kind of match the original layout. I could have gone with the polished version, but my car is not a show car yet. Either way, the Black Widow muffler does sound nice but it said not specific to a car and would need modifications and I need my car up and running by next weekend.

Thanks for the heads us on Black Widow though. I may use them on another project.

Re: Muffler Finally Rotted Out

For the best bang for the buck, there's nothing like a Flowmaster, P/N 42583 for third gens imo. And they are period correct too and make third gens sound amazing!

Re: Muffler Finally Rotted Out

I get the Magnaflow tomorrow. Already have the 3" intermediate pipe ready but wont get the tips until Friday if I'm lucky. But, I did get my Amsoil 15w50 oil in the mail today along with the 3002 K&N oil filter and a new AC Delco replacement fuel cap. I know the EGR is fairly new, the plugs are fine, the wires are fairly new, A.I.R. pump and solenoids work fine. So if my car wont pass after all this, I call

Re: Muffler Finally Rotted Out

Got the muffler yesterday. Once I opened the package, I noticed the muffler isn't as long or flat like the factory one. It looks good though. So I went on the net and decided to look for some installed Magnaflow mufflers on other third gen cars and it does appear to be a fair amount of fab work to get everything lined up. Other than that, guess I'll have to wait and see when I take it to the muffler shop.

Re: Muffler Finally Rotted Out

It's on the car. The new cat back is working great. When the shop took out the old muffler it was full of 30 years worth of carbon build up and soot.

Sweeny's mufflers in Torrance, CA, took care of the install very professionally and explained every detail of the process of what else it may need. Sure enough, the intermediate pipe I bought online was too short so he added to it.

Re: Muffler Finally Rotted Out

To me, it's more quiet than the stock muffler ever was. My car performs better now but that's more than likely from going from the stock 2 1/4" intermediate pipe to a 3".
