O2 Sensor Replacement
O2 Sensor Replacement
Hi, have 1982 2.8L V6, purchased 1988, currently 134K miles. I don't believe O2 sensor has EVER been replaced. Getting code 45, car sat outside for 7 years in Florida. Courtesy of local rodent(s), all wires, hoses, plugs, filters replaced. Car is running smooth but using lots of gas. Check engine comes and goes randomly. I am worried about cracking exhaust manifold in attempt to get the old one out. Have sprayed with penetrating oil in preparation for removal. Questions: Anyone ever had manifold crack while attempting to remove sensor??? Anyone know where to get new right side exhaust manifold with sensor port?? Is there anything besides penetrating oil to get the best chance of getting the damn sensor out??? If I take it to shop (30 miles out) and they crack the manifold I can't drive the car home. Am I overly concerned about the sensor removal??? Thanks for any suggestions or help on this, oldpackrat.

Re: O2 Sensor Replacement
They're stainless; usually come out without too much of a fight.
7/8" or 22mm box-end wrench is your friend.
Not sure about "take" or "shop"; don't even know what those are. Couldn't way whether any of that might crack the manifold or not.
