3" pipe or not?

hello. i was just wondering if i should get a three inch connecting pipe for my firebird. i had tha 3 incher on my camaro with an 80 series flowmaster and it sounded mean. Now i have an 80 on my firebird with the stock pipe and its not as loud. id ike the bigger pipe for the sound, but i have heard that it's not the best in terms of power gains. is this true? also i need a new cat. should i go with a catco, or are there some no name knockoffs that are just as good? sorry so long. thanx

if you have a v8 I would for sure use 3" pipe. I did put one on and gained power and time off in the 1/4 mile.
