whats the best exhaust set up i can use, with headers and catback, in a 71 350cbi in a 84z28 with out having a custom y-pipe made to attach the headers to the cat-back????????

Using dual headers and a catback, meaning a single pipe going to the muffler, you have to use a y-pipe. It must be pretty tough to hook up the headers to the catback without a y-pipe or something like it.
Why don't you want a y-pipe? They aren't that expensive to make. I got mine for 45 bucks. Look around and find the best price, I was getting quotes from 60-95 bucks before I found that shop. They also did a good job hooking up the collectors to 2-1/2in pipes to my 3in pipe.
