How long will mild steel mufflers, pipes last? Should I get SS?
I am having a hard time deciding whether to keep the Moroso Spiral Flow mufflers I have right now or to cough up the extra $$ for Borla XR-1 Sportsmans or Spintech Stainless Steel Pro Streets. (I know there are other SS mufflers, but I need something 12" long or less.) If I switch to SS mufflers, I will also use SS pipes (not much pipe for my shorty dual setup, but still a price difference). SLP headers and CarSound cats are already SS.
How long will regular, mild steel (not aluminized) mufflers and pipes last? (Keep in mind that it never snows/RARELY ices here so there is almost never salt on the roads.) How long if I paint them?
The other concern (recently thought of this) is that since the mufflers are "race mufflers," while they may be fully welded and durable in that regard, they may not be designed to last for years in the elements. On the other hand, the SS mufflers are inherently long-lasting.
