Weld or exhaust clamps
I have a Flowmaster muffler I'm thinking of putting on. I see it's made of heavier gauge steel for the inlets and outlets than the stock muffler. Will exhaust clamps work on it to crimp it down when the pipes are inserted into it, or will the connections have to be welded?

Should be able to clamp it just fine. If it leaks get it welded.

Get the band style exhaust clamps that seal 360*, or get the torsen style and cut 4 slits in the muffler inlet/outlets and clamp it. As stated Copper RTV will usually hold up (below 750*F) and seal it. But could be hard to remove down the line.

Clamps to me are for making sure everything fits properly and for testing the sound.
I would clamp it without any kind of sealer and run it like that until you decide you like the muffler.
Then take it in and have it welded on.
The shop doing the welding will not be happy about there being sealer there.
