Below is the original that was on my car (left) and the doorman replacement that was supposed to fit Vin:F cars. This seems like the wrong part, right?
Re: Doorman Wrong Exhaust Hanger? (86 TPI trans am)
That's the one I used. It is a tight fit to get the loop around the transmission mount and the bolts through the exhaust flange where my cat should be. I had to jack up the exhaust as high as possible to get everything to line up. Once it's iinstalled; it tucks the exhaust up nice and snug (but doesn't touch the floor pan. Let me know if you need pics.

Yeah that would be really helpful actually. I can't quite picture how it's supposed to go together with the loop at that angle
Re: Doorman Wrong Exhaust Hanger? (86 TPI trans am)
Well, old age got to me again! I went outside and stuck my head under the car; and I no longer have that hanger (removed it when I installed the new crossmember). So, no pictures of it installed. I do remember, the bolt holes on the hanger match the outer flange bolt holes of the cat converter, and then the loop hangs on a bracket for the transmission (attached to the torque arm mount - opposite side).
Hang the loop over the bracket on the transmission and then jack up the exhaust to meet the holes. The open end of the loop goes is arranged up towards the transmission tunnel. Give me a scond and I'll send a picture of the factory service manual.

Ohhh!!! Ok! I think I got the parts mixed up, my replacement part from Doorman attaches to the catalytic converter! Not the transmission! Thanks.
I'm gonna drill out the old riveted strap from the transmission housing part, and like you said the new loop goes from the bracket on the catalyst to the hanger attached to the transmission.
