Need help figuring out what the appropriate set of headers I need for my Z28

Recently my exhaust manifold got a leak and when I press on the gas it sounds like a gokart, I absolutely hate it and have been looking to buy a set of headers but since I don’t know jack **** about cars or car parts or what to get. I’ve been trying to do my research I wanted to go with the hooker competition shorty headers for the stock 305 but seen that you have to do some minor work to get them to fit properly I’m not to sure if that’s true or not but anyone who has better knowledge can you help or recommend the correct set of headers I would highly appreciate you guys I really want to get the right parts to get my car running the way she’s supposed to

Over the winter I installed Hedman mid length headers and y pipe on my 89 Formula 350. After old exhaust manifolds and y pipe were removed they installed from the top (need to have spark plugs and valve covers removed). It took some trial and error but was not that hard. Also had to re-route some wires/hoses and figure out how to make the A/C / alternator brackets work. The y pipe was installed and and routed in same place as factory y pipe.

thank you for the reply brother I really appreciate your time and help it really means a lot dude 🤙🏼 definitely gonna look into Hedman if you don’t mind me asking did you install yourself or did you take it to a shop to get the work done? If you did take it to a shop how much did you spend to have them install it and do all the extra work? I just want to have an idea of what kind of $$ price I’ll have to save up for to get the work done once again thank you for the reply I really appreciate you bro

I did it myself but my whole career was as a HD Truck/Diesel tech/trainer and service manager. I will say this is the first set of headers that I ever installed. If you install yourself the car will need to be raised 2 to 3 foot and supported on jack stands. Also there is not a lot of room to get to the exhaust manifold bolts (6 per side with lock tabs that need to be bent back) plus some are rusted fast. Plus will need to spray down the bolts with WD40 or a similar rust penetrant every day for 2 weeks prior to removal (makes it easier to get out and hopefully none snap/break off). If you have a car lift will also make it easier. A lot of exhaust shops can install if you decide to go that route but I would get estimates from a few to compare price and if you can supply supply the headers or must buy from them.

Dyno don replied and his headers are the best I've seen for these cars. They fit better, flow better and look better than all the other headers I've seen for a SBC in a 3rd gen. I have a supercharged 350 that has 550hp and dons headers are doing what I need. I've had them for 4 years now. They've held up great. Buy his and be done w the rust/poor fitment and leaks.
