Headers or Stock Manifolds?
I am swapping out my 305tpi for a reman 350tpi, it has the dual cat exhaust. If I decide to put headers on it from Summit, will that fit the factory y-pipe or will there need to be some fabrication? And will headers be better than than the stock manifolds for a stock motor? Thanks!

Re: Headers or Stock Manifolds?
Assuming we're talking about shorty headers, they offer substantially less resistance to flow and will perform better than the factory manifolds. However, the short tubes don't scavenge well until high rpm, typically past where TPI is going to live, so the gains on an otherwise stock TPI system will be mild.

Yes, I was thinking shortie headers, not sure if its worth the minimal gains spending over $500 for. But would they hook up to my factory y-pipe?

Re: Headers or Stock Manifolds?
No headers ever fit any factory Y-pipe. Ever. NONE. ANY.
Yes headers are better than manifolds, for performance, on virtually ANY motor. However, "cheeeeeep" headers will cause other headaches, that seriously detract from their long-term appeal; rust, dragging the ground, poor fitment otherwise, sort life, leeeeeeks, underhood heat that kills plastic & rubber parts, etc.
Get stainless steel headers, with their stainless Y-pipe; have them ceramic coated; do away with the factory dual-cat setup; and get a good quality single 3" cat & cat-back exhaust. Such a cat is far less restrictive than the factory dual setup, even though that was less restrictive than a factory single. ("factory" being the operative concept here) Or, leave it as-is. There's really no halfway or middle ground.
