Catco Catalytic Converter

Does Catco make a direct replacement catalytic converter for my '89 Firebird Formula?

My exhaust shop told me to watch out which high-flow cat you put on. They said that some 3 inch in and out cats are no good because while the inlet and outlet are 3 inches, the tubes internally drop to 2.5 or so, thus making the 3 inch tubes useless. Anyone heard of such a thing?

Z28DJP1987 ... did you need the SLP cat adaptor to hook up your CATCO from the 1 3/4 SLP headers ?
thanks in advance.

Yes, I used SLP p/n 30038 Slip Fit Adaptor for the connection from
the 1 3/4 headers to the Catco Cat and SLP Catback exhaust the rest of the way. Made for a nice system.

Did that SLP connector go from the car to a 3" pipe?

That Cat will work, may need some Fab work. Thats why I went with the direct fit Cat, even if the price is higher.

I don't care about fab work, it's gotta happen anyway. I'll have a 3 inch y-pipe from edelbrock. I'll have to get the end of my Hooker I-pipe cut off anyway, because it narrows down. I can live with fabricated mounts as long as I have all of my original parts intact when they come off the vehicle.
