SLP 1 3/4 Headers rubbing Steering Shaft?
SLP 1 3/4 Headers rubbing Steering Shaft?
Has anyone else had this problem, it seemed to be clearancing itself as I drove it. But it blew a head gasket on the test drive, so I am not sure if it will rub enough clearance or not. Since I am pulling the motor I could dimple the header a little bit. I was just curious if any one else had this problem and what they did to fix it or just let it go.
thanks guys

I had to dimple my slp headers for the same problem. A lot of people have to do this but some say they got away with it. I also installed energy suspension motor mounts and now my passenger side header hits one of the hard steel lines near the frame.
Mine rubbed when I first installed them, too. I ground down the steering shaft where it interfered. Only because I had a spare, and I didn't want it to mess up the Jet-Hot. I installed ES motor mounts, and the spare steering shaft, and no problems. Even on the passenger side...

get under the dash and locate the plate that the column goes thru as it passes thru the f-wall loosen the 3 bolts that hold the plate and also the bolts that hang the column up under the cluster. try, at first, just shifting the col. over in the existing holes in the plate, holes are way larger than bolt diameter-if that dont get you clear-grind on the plate a bit until you get what you need at the header, shouldnt need to remove much inside the holes to slide. way cleaner than wailing on the header with a giant hammer(ford tool). later

GGA has is correct. Do a search on this board and you'll find that a few people have had clearance problems between SLP 1 3/4" headers and their steering shaft. You can move it over a bit using the method described, and all is good. Dont dent those headers! Congrats on getting the best headers for our cars.
