headers vs new exhaust

What do you guys think? I have a 91 LO3 camaro. Should I buy headers and have the stock pipes worked on to make it fit or should I just save up until I can get headers and duals at the same time? Also, could I pass emisions without the AIR system or do I need the headers that are tapped for it? Thanks

Saving up for duals will get rather pricey. And with your setup I think would be a waste. I'd get headers and a good cat-back. (cough..Hooker...cough). Does your state have visual emission checks, if so then I'd say you would fail, as far as just for the sniffer I couldn't say. I just got headers with AIR and plugged it.

Thanks for the input Mark. Thats a pretty healthy sound you get from your exhaust. So with the cat back and headers, you have headers, then the stock exhaust, then from the converter back you have the cat back? I always figured thats what cat back meant but I wasnt sure. How much work did it take getting the headers in? Did they bolt up to the old system or did you have to get some pipe cut off?
