tri-y headers
Just bought an old version of SLP 1 3/4" headers..Its 4 into 2 then into 1..WHy did they change to 4 into 1?Is bad is the old design..I was told that this configuration promotes torque in the bottom and mid

Most people wanr 4 to1, not tri-y's (I have no idea why - I would love to find a set of tri-y's). They are also normally more expensive than 4 to 1's. Those are the only reasons I can think of...

Theyre old and grimy,The stainless shine is gone and looks really black..THere is a dent on the no.3 cylinder pipe..I dont really need to boost my low or mid range torque so I might be interested in a trade..I have the "off-road" pipe and 3" intermediate pipe that bolts up to it..I dont think its fair for you on a swap though since these headers are like 3 yrs old..BTW the air tubes are welded shut

The reason TRI-Y headders went by the wayside is because back in the day, when hot rods were making legends, all the big racers had 4 into 1 headders. Thus 90% of people think that to get lots of HP, you use 4 into 1 headders and 1000 CFM carbs and 2" headders and rev to 9000 RPM, and 150 lbs. oil pressure etc. etc.
So you can see that the TRI-Y just wasn't what people were buying, and the manufacturers made what people bought. Actually, Smokey Yunick designed and first used headders on one of his NASCARs, the inspectors made him take them off...
TRI-Ys are good, but if you already have mucho TQ down low, then it's gonna be even more of a problem to traction, so a little compromise down low will yeild more in the upper RPM area, where the power can then be used. It should be seen as a 'tuning' mod, as well as headder tube widths.
