keeping smog pump

I am ready to redo the stock exhaust and want to get some headman shortys and a catback system.I have all the air crap on there now,but i want to delete it because we dont have inspections in SC anymore. Can i leave the smog pump on, will it cause any problems, or do i need to do the pulley delete? And for me using headers w/o air fittings and pipe through cat will it mess with the computer any?I know everyone has opinions about which headers to use, i just want a pair that fits without a lot of trouble.

you can leave the disconnected smog pump on. I did when i put a set of slp headers on a buddies gta, cus the damn pump ate my torx bit. Them sumbitches are on really tight- probably to make it hard to remove em ya think? we're gonna take it off when the motor gets pulled out and we can drill out that bastard bolt- I got all of em but that one. He claims he can hear a hissing from the air pump, but with the hood closed and driving, i can't hear it.

I deleted the smog pump on mine when I installed headers. I'm 99% positive I used a 97" belt instead of the stock 98". We are talking about a serpentine system right? Mine pump and all associated hardware came off without a problem.

Put that smog pump to work

I did the same thing as you with the smog pump but don't throw it out! Hook some copper or conduit piping to the pump, run it to a T-fitting, and then to the back drums. I don't know how much cooler brake drums are from the air but they sure are clean on the inside. Hardly any brake dust at all!
