newbie Cat related Questions

Hi, I am a little confused about the Cat.
1) what is a CatBack muffler?
2) the difference between dual and single CatBack?
3) what are the effects of a bad Cat?
4) If it is not a legal requirement, what are the pros and cons of removing the Cat.

My car cuts out when I am in drive with my foot on the brakes and randomly after it warms up to normal operating temp.
I suspect a clogged Cat.
Any Advise?
Thanks
Prem.

A "cat-back" system includes all the exhaust equipment (muffler included) AFTER the catalytic converter.

No such animal as dual CATBACK. Just single or dual CATS...single = 1 cat, dual = 2 cats

A bad cat will cause hesitation, backfiring, and sometimes stalling.

Removing the cat can give you more hp, but affects how the car sounds.

Well, if you have dual cats, you need a cat-back for a dual cat system. So, technically, there is such a thing as a dual cat cat-back. It just doesn't have dual pipes back to the muffler.

Removing the cat will also put more pollutants into the environment. Of course I doubt most people are concerned with this though.

Thanks it is much clearer now. One more Question, If I remove the cat do I have to make any Adjustments to the engine?

shouldn't as far as I know

there is a good difference in flow but it shouldn't be enough to make you have to tamper with anything else
