True dual into one
I have a true dual 2 1/2" exhaust and I am thinking about putting on a Hooker muffler on with dual 2 1/2 in and a single 3 out. I don't think this will hurt my performance because one 3" flows better than dual 2 1/2". Am I correct? The reason I want to do this, is because there isn't anyplace to mount the mufflers so the exhaust exits out each side. Does anyone have true duals that can tell me where they put there mufflers.
Thanks
Thanks

???
HUH?
Now I am confused. If your GTA has a true dual exhaust system, I would keep it like that. Since you have an 89, I am guessing it might be the same as my 91, in which the exhaust manifold runs into a Y-pipe and goes back to a muffler with dual outlets.
I have a FlowMaster 80 on my car. 3" single inlet, dual 2.5" outlets.
It's the opposite as you described.
Why in the world would you want to take a true dual exhaust system and throw both tubes into one muffler? This does not make any sense to me!!!

I think I remember a diagram about a muffler setup.... There were 2 mufflers side by side in an S-like configuration, in which they were both mounted where the single muffler went.
Tas has some links to true duals too!

well then...
I don't see why that would hurt performance, if not even improve performance if you don't have a X/H-pipe by balancing the backpressure between the piping. However, 2 2&1/2 mufflers should flow better than a single 3". I dont know if anyone makes a dual 2.5" in 3.5" out muffler, but that would be ideal for what you want. If space is a concern, check out Flowmaster's delta force race mufflers - They are only 9" long and 4" thick. Or maybe the Dynomax bullet mufflers will work just as easily. Hope I was helpful, and that someone can give you some hard evidence on the subject.

YOU'RE 2 quick on the draw!
I re-read your post and changed my post within 30 sec of posting!! I didn't think anyone would have the chance to jump on that one! If "replying" was a 2002 Winter Olympic Sport, you'd be a contenda'!
one guy on my site has dual exaust in the stock location with 3 mufflers that exit both on the the drivers side.
