Total Exhaust System questions
I just bought this 91' RS w/ a 305 TBI 2 days ago, and it's in dire need of a pick me up exhaust.
As far as headers go, I'm leaning towards the Hooker Comp Shorties w/ the coating ($315). Now these come w/ an O2 fitting which I need, but here in GA they don't check the A.I.R. so I really don't need it do I? It won't screw up the computer or anything will it? Also, how do these install....easy or a pain? Any problems with plugs?
Secondly, how much does it cost to have a y-pipe made from a shop? Or does someone sell one for less?
As far as cat-backs go, interior noise doesn't need to be deafening; I've had my fair share of that. I just want that nice tone when I step on it. I have it narrowed down to the Dynomax w/ the Super Turbo, Hooker Cat-Back, and the Flowmaster Force II. Now I know the Hooker sounds sweet out the back, but what about interior noise? And are there any prominent problems w/ any of these systems?

Welcome.
The Comp shorties aren't a good idea unless you have an in with an exhaust shop. No y-pipe is available, and getting a custom one will cost you more (with the headers) than the Super Comp shorties which have the y-pipe. Plus, if you're going coated, you want the y-pipe done as well. I understand your aversion to A.I.R. if it isn't necessary (and eliminating it won't mess up your ECM). Guess you'll have to decide what you want to do.
Plug access is tight, to say the least. You'll probably have to make a special plug wrench to get at them. Installation is time consuming, but not impossible.
I'll let others comment on the cat backs.

I love my Hooker... cat-back. Sound clip is in the signature. Interior noise while cruising is very minimal. I did on recording of it doing 70mph and you can't even hear it with the windows up.

So except for the fact that the Comps don't come with a y-pipe, they're o.k.????
Now the Super Comps, (1) aren't those 1 3/4 primaries??, and (2) what is the p/n and cost for those with the coating?? And are the Super Comps o.k. with emissions?

The Super Comp Shorties are 1-5/8" primaries, p/n 2055 (Summit p/n HOK-2055-1 for coated, $625.99 per their on-line catalog - says out of stock but "order it now" - was out of stock last year when I ordered my uncoated SC's). They are fully emissions legal. The design is slightly different than the Comp shorties at the collector (that's why no y-pipe is available). I actually like the Comp design better, but needing a custom y-pipe was a big negative to me (at least around here, any custom bending & welding gets expensive real fast).
If you look them up on the Summit web site, they've got their pictures screwed up (show BBC headers for the coated Super Comps, and the Comps for the uncoated Super Comps).
