is it true SLP y-pipe doesn't need gaskets?

I went to autozone and got a 2 1/2" collector donut gasket. and it didn't seem to want to fit. So now they are telling me that i don't NEED a gasket. that the y-pipe will fit up to the header and not need a gasket. is this true? if not then what size gasket do I need?????

For my SLPs, I found Fel-Pro #60986 donut gaskets fit. If I remember correctly, they were 2-5/8" or something like that.

The package says they are for 1965-1991 Chev., GMC V8, sintered metal.

there is a donut it is 2 1/2" ID i got a solid steel one that has worked much better than the standard style. Of course i can't find the PN but you will find them in the back of a walker catalog. I had changed the standard ones about 4 times and the bolts were in bad shape, i do not think the threaded inserts in the flanges are stainless and they seemed to be degrading so i picked up a stud kit which makes it a litle easier to install and includes deep brass nuts.

Yea, I learned that lesson a couple years ago when the bolt broke off in the flange. I drilled out all the threads
