92 rs cat
92 rs cat
hi
I want to pull the cat off my 92 (305 tbi) and run either straight pipe or a performance cat to a new muffler. Is the cat welded to the y pipe?
I tried hammering it off but it has not budged. (the other side popped right
off.)
I'v seen some posts on air pump removal. Will that increase the performance
and not effect computer settings/control?

Its a slip on connector but after a while of being stuck together the friggin thing might as well be welded. As for popping the air pump/cat off, your computer wont even know its missing. These cars arnet like the newer ones that have one or more o2 sensers in the cat to monitor its efficiency and performance.

Go Duals if possible
If you can go with replacing your single cat y-pipe with a dual cat it would help with a little more flow. Even better yet, use high flow cats. Otherwise Dynomax and Random Technologies are two that I know of for sure that make high flow converters for single cat systems. I'm looking at replacing my 92 B4C police package dual cats with Random technologies.
