Urgent!!! Need Help Quickly!

This is actually Bulldog92...92blackZ is helping me with my SLP header install. Here's our problem: we simply cannot remove the passenger side rear exhaust manifold bolt. The retainer tab from GM prevents us from putting an open-end wrench on it. Also, since it is actually a stud and not a bolt, a deep socket would be required for removal. However, you can't even get a deep socket on it since there is no room for it between the end of the stud and the air box.

We have been battling this problem for hours (embarrassingly enough) and are in DESPERATE need of help! I HAVE to get the car, with installed SLP headers, to the exhaust shop by Friday afternoon so he can tie them into my cat-back. This is my daily driver and I'm getting really worried here. Any advice will be greatly appreciated....thanks.

Yeah that one sucks... I just kept at it till it came out, major pita. Some auto parts stores carry extra deep well sockets, that may do the trick. Stick with it, you'll get it!

Get the tab bent back - until you do that, nothing much else is going to help.

One possibility in lieu of the deep socket: Put two nuts on the stud, tighten them against each other, remove the whole thing via the inner nut.

We used needlenose pliers to bend the tabs enough to get the socket on.

Hope you clear the frame rails! I had to use Polly motor mounts to make it work! I also had to heat the driver side header to dimple it so it would clear the steering shaft!

Good Luck!!!
