3" X-pipe

Where can I get my hands on a good 3" Mandrel-bent X-pipe? I have Hedman's 2.5" but am going dual 3". Thanks for the help.

Hedman is starting to make it for 189.00. I called Jegs and they said it would take 2-3 weeks to get here, but I am not planning on doing this till July anyhow.

Wow. That's the company I am going to go with.

Since this car is now my toy, and I the fact that I will have little room, I am not going to worry about cats. If I have room, and the car is too loud, even for weekend/cruising use, I will consider them then.

My future setup is looking like;
Hooker LT Ceramicoated headers
Dr. Gas 3" X-pipe
2 3" Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 Series mufflers, on out behind the rear wheels.
Should cost me 900 dollars, and I'll have a friend weld it up for me.

Thanks for the help,
Clint

Here is my basic plan. I am considering oval tubing though. I am going to see if I can run it out the back if I use oval tubing.

Those are dynomax bullet mufflers. They are 3 inch in/out and I believe they are supposed to flow straight through. They arent supposed to quiet the exhaust a lot just a little, but from people who have had them including the picture I showed (its a 97 SS) they sound great. I talked to one guy who said that you can slide a pop can right through them so if you are wanting something quite these are probably not for you. Oh, and you are talking about running dual 3 inch out the back of the car. I just wondered if you have a plan for routing or if you have looked yet. The reason I asked is because the Panard rod will get in the way of the drivers side I believe. I think they have been run that way but I am not sure how much the suspension travels. If it is much it will hit the exhaust. I have stiffer springs and shock in the back so I probably wont have a ton of travel but I am still worried that it might be too much to run pipe in between.

The current setup I have is kind of awful. It runs underneath the rear anti-sway bar. I plan on dumping it out before the rear axle, like the one that is pictured above.

Here is a pic of what I have now. I want it to look like that up above.

I admit not sure what you are running on your car for a setup but are you sure you really need dual 3 inch pipes off that thing?

that would be used for a really high displacement motor or one that is going to rev up very high

and if you are still running a 305 I really doubt you are going to need that much pipe back there
even with a 350 that is just with some mild mods I wouldn't think you need that much either

In my opinion, if he wants them and can fit them under there, why not? I mean it has all been discussed, and I believe you even believe that backpressure is bad. If he is not going to be able to fit it and have it driveable that would be one thing, but if he can and wants it that way, I dont see a problem with it. By the way, firecrow what is your setup?

Oh, I know I don't NEED it . However I do plan on ending up with a large displacement small block in the car. The 305 will not be in there forever, and lowest displacement I'd settle for is 383, I am hoping for a 427. This is down the road, but I want to have the exhaust setup finished, and out of the way when the time comes.

This isn't my daily, so I don't need to go off-road with it or anything. When it is driven, it will probably be hard, so low-end torque isn't an issue.

hehe no wonder you didn't post your sig
that thing is LONG

with the 383 I can see 3 " a little better

though with the 305 you are goin to lose more then just your lown end
but prolly some of your high also being that your exhaust gas will not move fast enough even atthe high rpms to help pull the next exhaust pulse out

now a 427 I wish you luck and hope you put something like that in there

even me and my high winding taste I would take a 427 any day of the week

Thanks for the best wishes. I don't believe I will lose any upper rpm power (but then again, who does, until they do?). If I do, I'll just have to save up for some parts that make more exhaust gas than before . For now I will be taking the stock TBI unit, and having the stock 1 11/16" (42.8mm) bores enlarged to 48mm, so that should help a little. With the 427 I am aiming for around 8:1 - 8.5:1 compression with a dual carb supercharger with a pair of TBI units on top. I'll probably have to get a bigger cowl, lol. Whatever I end up with, I will be pleased that I have dual 3's.

How is your RX-7 doing? I think it's great that they are bring the Wankel back soon.

Clint

I am doing 80-90% of my driving these days in my Ford Escort. (my first car with working a/c

Just my opinion, but I would rather go without air conditioning than drive and escort.

Lol. My first car was an escort. I dogged the hell out of it, and broke the aod tranny. I was going to try and trick it out (thank *** for my brother saved me in time).

I drive a lot, and I don't want to put all of those miles on my firebird, I'd rather be spending my time on it making it faster, than replacing dumb worn out stuff from daily driving it. Now I can use a setup that is pretty wild, and not have to worry about what everyday use will do to it. Besides, the escort gets 10 more mpg atleast in the city. It's got plenty of cargo space since it's a hatchback, a great beater car.

Just as a humurous anecdote, I was driving to Zepher WS6's house yesterday to help him swap engines, and the rear portion of my exhaust dropped, and began spraying sparks everywhere. CWIroc was there in his caddy, so we went to eckerd's and bought some bungee cords and I tied it up. This new exhaust may come sooner than I had suspected.

91firecrow,
How does the x pipe sound?? I currently have duals with an H-pipe and it sounds great but was thinking about getting an x-pipe and replacing the whole exhaust.
