Bought an Iroc hood not too long ago. They set the hood packed in a cardboard sleeve, and an outer cardboard box with padding materials between, on it's side on top of a roughly 6ft long pallet, then strapped it to the pallet so it would ride safely that way. Shipped by a trucking company I've never heard of before. All I can say is that the hood arrived just fine.

By packing it upright, at least no one was able to walk across it, set something heavy on top of it, run over it with a forklift, etc. No clue what the shipping/handling actually cost, but I paid less than $200 for the hood, with free shipping.
