2ndgen Spoiler Material?

Hey guys,

I was throwing around the idea of using a rear spoiler off of a late '70s Z28 or Trans Am.

Does anyone know what they are made of? Fibreglass? Plastic?

Are they solid, or hollow?

How are they held onto the body (on 2ndgens)? Is there a studin the poiler bottom, or does a bolt go up through the trunk lid?

Mine were fiberglass and IIRC they had studs mounted in them that you bolted in the trunk side.

im thinking you would have to glass it down since its going to be a different shape. you might have to cut areas also. i would deff glass it down so it looks like the spoiler and deck lid are all one piece

That was what I was thinking too, but I wanted to get the bottom and the 2 end peices to fit as tightly to the body as possible first.

well if they are setup with bolts in the spoiler, then your going to have to drill. if not id tap it out and bolt it down then glass it. really no other way to pull it down close to the body

I'm going to try this with a 2nd gen Trans Am spoiler on my 84 TA. I already got the spoiler itself and I'm only using it as a reference to make my own spoiler because it doesn't match up well at all to the 3rd gen body. The center section is not as wide on the 2nd gens and also the rear tail lights on 2nd gens are at an angle instead lf straight up and down. The top is further towards the front of the car than the bottom is. To answer the questions asked, my spoiler off a 78 TA is plastic, hollow, and has studs that would go through the trunk lid and bolts underneath.
