well, i don't plan on doing that kinda stuff. (wish i could tho) i mainly do sheet metal and starting to do roll cages, it makes it alot easier when i don't have to keep fliping the helmet up to see.

I had an auto darkening helmet, I loved it except for one little detail, the brand (I don't know what it was) was c r a p. I think the auto dark's are great just be sure you get a decent one.

The speedglas helmet is very good.
You should try the 9002X, that is good for all
sort of welding.
Here are another link with information about it.

(Did you know that it´s a Swedish design)

I've got the Jackson EQC (http://www.weldingmart.com/Qstore/p000131.htm) and love it. No flash that I've noticed, and the little battery has lasted over 5 years now, and still going strong. The big window is real nice too.

I've got that Speedglass Utility helmet (the link that onebinky posted), it works great. Granted I never tried any other helmets so I can't compare it to anything else, but so far, no problems!

miller auto darkening helmet
I have the xli miller auto darkening helmet I have been using that one for about the 4 years and have no complaints . its about 50 or 60 dollars cheaper than the bigger lense hood your getting.
Very light and 4 shade adjustments. its good for medium to light welding projects.
