Gauges in center vents.

I want to put 3, 2 1/16" gauges in the location of my center vents. The gauges need a 2 1/4" space so I want at least a quater inch between the ring around the gauge and the edge of the dash. To do this I will need to build up the vent holder. I am thinking I will use Fiberglass to do this but I have never worked with fiberglass. Should I make a wooden fixture and cover with the fiberglass or just layer the fiberglass over the vinyl?

Have you thought about useing Lexan instead. I don't know anything about Fiberglass but the Lexan is very easy to cut and bend.

DustyJL I asked the same question about 4 months ago. I figured The easiest method to use with out having Hours involved and still look Clean is to buy a autometer 3 guage panel and weld brackets to the sides to Wrap around the side of the Vent Section, the Remove vents and Upper dash cover and Mount With Bolts that you Tighten On the Inside under the dash panel. I actually used a autometer guage panel for the guage spacing and Traced that on the a piece of sheet metal and made it fit the opening correctly. I haven't pictures of it yet because it is sitting in my shed, because I am currently in the process of installing a Fuel Cell. so Lets see some Pics when yours is done.
