aluminum steering box

You could go ahead and replace the power steering with an aluminum manual steering box and save weight , also if you go to a racing style steering column and remove the big heavy stock steering column you would save a lot of weight.

The only aluminum steering box would be an aftermarket one. For the cost of such a steering box, to most people, it wouldn't be worth the price. A manual steering box from an S10 does the job just fine for a fraction of the cost.

My steering column is just a shaft. All the extra weight of the factory column comes to around 10 pounds.
