Sleepy Eyes Headlight Fab

All,

I've read and seen a few photoshop pics about a modification to the third gen Firebird headlights referred to as 'sleepy eyes'. I've long thought that this would be an excellent improvement to the look of these cars (with the headlights up at least). I personally think it's rediculous how far out of moldline that the headlights protrude in stock form, and always thought it could be done in a sleeker, more lo-pro fashion.

Has anyone actually done such a mod to their car? I may just go ahead and fab some myself as I have an extra set of headlight assy's, but I thought I'd see what others had done first.

a few have.
Redraif, I think deadbird, I can't remember who else has.
search for "lazy eye" or something. I forget what it's commonly called on this board, but once you find one person with it, you'll be able to search, and find the rest.

As far as I've been able to find...The "Sleepy Eyes" are the unicorn of the Firebird world.

Lots of photoshopped pics, lots of "I've seen that!", but no REAL pics of it being done, or any person who has actually done it!

Wish I had a spare set of headlights to work with.

Yea, I got a good set off this board a few years back. I got in a small fender bender in college, and bent the nose of my 84 a bit. One of the headlights doesn't open/close right. It could just be the nose shoved back into it, but I wanted another set anyway that I knew weren't bent. I guess I'll be able to tell for sure when I put the new nose on it. That's when I'll try out the mod. If I find that the originals are ok, then I'll probably sell my extra set. That might be a while from now though.

What about this is not real ?

It's just as real as when I posted it in this thread, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...irds-suck.html , that you even replied in.

And just as real when I started.. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/auto...d-opinion.html

I never saw that thread, much less the pic, or else I never would have said what I did. Sorry. I gotta say though, that single light, isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Thing is, the Grand Prix uses 4 lights, 2 highs and 2 lows, so, using Grand Prix lights, you'd only have 1 fixed headlight level. Not highs and lows.

I looked into the Grand Prix lights, but decided against them, for that reason. I haven't done any research yet, on a short, dual beam light that would work.

I read over those threads now... I guess I'm just too picky on what I want. I might pick up an extra set of headlights, to play with. I know where a set is, that I can get, from a friend.

For the grand prix style headlights, It's probably possible to remove the bulbs in them. I got one from a LT1 camaro here but I think the only way that bulb is coming at is by me taking a vise or grinder to it.

Then the 2nd hard part would be finding a bulb that would go into that headlight. One might exist that can fit in the headlights easily but I'm not sure.

You participated in the thread.. were you asleep when you posted ?
You even asked me a question about how I modded the stops...

Try actually reading the post you were in and see exactlywhy I used the GP low lamps.

You didn't exactly answer my original question, deadbird, in that other thread, so there was no clear indication that it had really been done.

In one of those threads, I didn't post a single time...AT ALL!

In the other thread, the only pic was your initial trial, but even after I asked, there is ZERO clearifaction, as to it was actualy even done, rather than just a set of lights set under the pop up lids, to see what it looked like. Nothing saying it was actually ever done/finished. I guess you could have pointed me towards the other thread. I wasn't the only one saying it hadn't ever actually been done. Your headlight bulb is crooked, so it sorta looks like a photochop anyways, especially with no post pointing towards the other thread.

To start, I'll apologize for singling you out. It is really not my intention but, I'll answer to you.

In order:
- I did actually answer you eventually without directly addressing you. I'm not sure why I would PS so many pictures to create an elaborate rouse.. especially of the assemblies clamped to a shelf.

That's going a little too far to fool someone.

- I said the thread, singular. One of the couple I posted.

- When someone says

Is the bulb crooked ? Sure looks that way in the picture right ?. But, considering the nose is made from molded urethane plastic, it might be more realistic to believe the nose isn't perfectly straight.

You have all the power and information of the internet at you hands and still expect information spoonfed to you.

Try finding the information to do it when you're the first person...

Car: 1984 trans am
Engine: 305... for now
A guy ran a stop sign and smashed into the front end of my car.. so I'm either redoing the front end of my car, or swapping all of my car's stuff into another.

So.. after all of that gets done,
I'm probably going to do it... so I'll post pictures when finished.
