Radiator Overflow Bottle
Radiator Overflow Bottle
Here's a question. I am getting rid of the factory coolant overflow bottle. It was big and ugly. I am trying to figure out what to do in place of it. The bottles from Summit are mostly just catch cans. I thought maybe something like this but it is a catch can. I thought about mounting it upside down, but what would I do to vent it? I don't want to leave an open hole in it. The other option I found is this. I am weary about things off ebay being complete crap though. It doesn't look like it will flow back to the radiatior either. Basically another catch can in that case. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Also has anyone done anything with the washer fluid resevoir?

i just got rid of my collant overflow and washer fluid tanks cuz they were so big and ugly. i replaced them with just some cheap plastic catch cans from jegs. i got one like regualr catch can and 1 recirculating(coolant). i dont have anypics right now cuz im painting my engine bay right now but alls i did was weld a 3inch tap on each side of the rad support then drilled a hole to bolt the catch can too. looks alot better and was pretty cheap and easy...heres the link for the cans i used. hope this helps JEGS High Performance - JAZ Overflow Catch Cans

Morosso makes an overflow catch can than is functional
I used in for my car. There is a tube going down to the bottom of the can ,
when your rad cools down it creates suction which pulls the coolant back into the rad.

i bought the summit catch can and it sucks the fluid back in... i mounted it where the pollution control canister used to be and ran a hose under the shroud to radiator works and looks really cool
Why not just buy some .050 thick aluminum flatstock for dirt cheap and weld up your own and then you can custom make it for your car. I made one with 6 sides that has a 90 angle then another one then straight down again to fit it into the spot i wanted, i also drilled two hole in the tank one at the bottom one at the top, and put two 90 angle fittings with threads at one end and compession fitting on the other and put a clear tube to them so you can see your water level in the tank...
Just something to think about.

I don't have the capabilities to weld aluminum at my house. Though I do have the aluminum and I really like the idea. I finally decided to order a Moroso catch can and I will run the line from the bottom of the tank to the rad. That will recirculate the coolant. I will just run a line off the top of the bottle to the ground in case it ever gets too full. It was a little tall, so I have to make a cutout in my new battery tray filler plate. I think it will come out nice. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Someone on here used a combo washer fluid and coolant tank from a ford explorer. it's a square box that fits exactly where the battery was. But you have to relocate your battery. I went to the junk yard and they had an explorer with the right tank but I didn't buy it...yet. I was there getting other stuff and didn't have the time. But I know where it is for the spring. don't have a pic but someone here does.

I use an overflow bottle from an old Volvo. It has a rad cap on top and the line is at the bottom like a proper overflow bottle. Fluid goes in an out as required. The plastic bottle holds roughly a quart.

it's from an older exploder.... like 91-93ish, in there. I also did the combined bottle. I got mine from a grand marquis or something like that.... it was big. and late-80's early-90's. Mine is square and even has the motor in the bottle for the washer fluid, if it ever decide to hook it up, it would assist the stock washer fluid motor. no big deal though. but it wounted mine where the charcoal canister was, and kept my battery where it was. the bottle fits perfectly up against the rad support and flows coolant in and out as required. for now, mine is missing a little plug for the top, so it's open all the time.... i'd get a cheap little plug from somewhere, or make it bigger and put a decent sized filler cap. in fact..... that has me thinking...

X2 on the 4th gen bottles. Atleast on the overflow. The washer bottle takes a bit more hacking and fabbing.
Kind of hard to see it in this pic...but isnt that the point??

another..

Here is a rough idea of how the washer bottle can fit. I since picked up a new cover plate and cut the holes out nicer...instead of looking like a chewed the holes.

Some have made it almost totally stealth. You can only see the cap poking up through. I wasnt able to achieve this...
Really cleans up the fender wells...no more ugly bottles.

Re: Radiator Overflow Bottle
I just went to the boneyard today, pulled this and found many many more in mid 90's Explorers 90-94 or so, and in early 90's F-150s. Washer and Coolant in one small package. In My Opinion, its easier and much faster to drop it in instead of cuttin and fabbing a 4th gen coolant reservoir under the passenger battery, this required no permanent damage or cuts. and best of all it was CHeeep!
