cut around the factory upper shroud with whatever (dykes, etc) until it clears the tanks and hammer out the lower shroud as well and test fit until snug.

If you do a search for my name I did a write up on how to install a northern radiator (similar or the same?) in a serp. belt system car.

I made my radiator supports very simple. I just used 1" X 1/4" aluminum. I cut it and bent it to fit. Here are some photos:

I just bought a sheet of brushed aluminum, a cheapie break, and some Kett shears and made this shroud. I spent maybe a few hours on it taking my time and I had to incorporate my Spal fans into the mounting too. I took alot of measurements...and made sure to measure two and three times before I made any cuts. I plan to polish the aluminum at some point along with some other pieces in the the bay.

I took some measurements and made a template out of cardboard. I took it to a local fab shop were the guy had the stainless left over from another job and fabbed it up for me for free. They aren't too difficult to make if you have the equipment.

I'm not sure of the angle. I just cut the pattern out of a piece of cardboard and he bent it to match. Stand the cardboard on edge on top of the radiator and bumper...support...thingy...side and keeping cutting it out til it matches the angle you need.

Re: RADIATOR HOLD DOWN

I needed a custom setup to fit my larger aluminum rad and dual fan assembly so I made up a cardboard template and took it to a local HVAC shop and they bent it up for me. Used a punch flange that I bought off the net to add some unique style and then had it powder coated.

Mine is not as pretty as some, but it gets the job done:

I used that because I had the bright idea of putting in an electric fan from a Volvo. (Which actually worked shockingly well.) It fits fine and it's cheap: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Although I wonder if this one might fit even better: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Very impressive, and I really like the punched holes! What I am more intrigued about is the manifold... Sheet metal with custom carbon fiber cover, Hogans?? Looks really cool!!!!

Re: RADIATOR HOLD DOWN

Thanks for the interest. The manifold is actually custom made from a Holley Pro Dominator tunnel ram base and custom plenum, rails, etc. that we setup. The lid was milled out and a carbon fibre insert was added. Same for the valve covers.

I have more pics of the car if you are interested. Still finishing it up.

YES!!!! I would love to see some more pictures of the car. From what I can see from the couple pics posted above it looks like a really high quality, high end type of build, I love that.... Gives me a place to set my goals for.

same idea as alot of others. took scrap piece of alum to roofing company. for 5 bucks and three minutes they put two bends in it. used cardboard template and cut it then polished (still have more polishing to do).

Huh… the flanged holes give it a definite, lightweight racecar look, but no real race car would have holes punched there because they would give air a place to flow around the radiator core, especially our cars which force air from the bottom to the top of the core and rely on having the air blocked off at the top of the radiator to get airflow across the core.

fastcar06: Are the fans the original TPI dual units, and can
you tell how much of a difference the shroud makes? (Some
on the board argue that it makes a significant difference...)

Thanks I'm sure you could make one yourself..that was my first attempt working with sheet metal and with a decent break and some shears you're set. If I had the time and better (pro) equipment I'd make them for sale. Unfortunately there are too many different radiator configs too to produce one type of unit.

Re: RADIATOR HOLD DOWN

the fans came with the kit. both 10" from summit. the car has not been drivin yet so i'm not sure on thier effectiveness. one of the magazines did a test a while back and they came to the conclusion that two smaller fans shrouded are more effective than one larger unit (size matters) shrouded or not. that is what i based my decision on.

Re: RADIATOR HOLD DOWN

Copy that fastcar, thanks for the info.
Any recollection of what kind of larger fan(s) were used
for the comparisons? The current hi-perf set-up is the
Ford Taurus/Lincoln 2-speed unit, claiming ~4000 CFM,
which is more than most of the aftermarket single units.
(And there seems to be no shortage of these on e-bay
in the $50 - 80 dollar range.)

Any other thoughts, anyone?

AHA!!! I bought that rad support for my car, thinking it would FIT! I did so based on YOUR post!
That's not even CLOSE to fitting! I'm guessing you drilled some holes in the body to mount it, and used something on top of the rad?

Has anybody used an off the shelf support to hold their rad in place? I'm using the Taurus fan as well, and right now i'm using the mechanical fan shroud, but with the shroud part trimmed with an angle grinder.
I'd get that second one you mentioned, but it also doesn't list it as fitting a 3rd gen Camaro, so now i'm gunshy.

Anyone?

Well, sorry dude... I did drill one hole, guess I forgot to mention that. The other holes lined up. There's nothing on top of the radiator, and I'm using this fan: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cool...o-s80-fan.html ...I did mention that. It fits my application very well. Sorry if that misled you into thinking it would be a good fit for yours. As for the one in the other link, I think it would actually fit without drilling, but I don't know. Please don't buy it based on that.
