anybody running just a crossbar?

i ordered my 5 point harnesses and im trying to decide how i want to mount them, i really want to have a crossbar in the back to mount the seat belts and so i can mount my video camera on there for when i race but i dont want to put in a cage. i want the backseats to still be useable so i want the crossbar to be high so it is not dangerous for people sitting in the back. just wondering if anyone on this site has done anything like this. i know how i want to do it but i was wondering if anyone had any insight on what to use and how they did it.

the way im thinking right now is to make a bracket on each sail panel areas and fab a bar out of round metal tubing to run the length of the backseat and mountthe bar to the brackets on each side. so it could be semi-easily removable if i wanted to remove it. but im worried about this being structually sound. what do you guys think good or bad, just dont be too harsh, lol

Re: anybody running just a crossbar?

The problem is doing anything other than a straight bar across would be compromising it's structural integrity. It's all about physics. Take for example a can of pop. Easy as heck to crush in the sides, but it's a bit more difficult to crush it from top to bottom. Now put this strength into a steel bar and use it as a cross bar. If it has a bends in it, or is a loop, it will flex. I'm pretty sure a removable cross bar is not NHRA legal either.

I Believe you can put it diagonally across so that you could use at least one rear seat.

It would be legal to 11.50. at 11.49 you need a 5 point roll bar and SFI racing harnesses that are mounted no more than 30* from horizontal to the cross bar.
