Re: 4x4 bird

Find a 4x4 with the same wheel base. Install third gen body on 4x4 frame.

Re: 4x4 bird

Third gens are 101"

Even the old K5 Blazers were 104". I'm sure if the third gen body sat high enough to clear the tires, the extra 3" of wheelbase wouldn't be noticed.

Re: 4x4 bird

and while your at it take a corvette and lift it. make sure the get the official red neck tire of f body 4x4's the super swamper. and just go on ahead and put mud flaps on, sidepipes, a hitch and cow catcher on the front. I mean hey... you might as well go all the way and get that $1,000 bucks from country fried home videos.

In 1986 in the backwoods of arkansas. I saw 3 like that. A 72 Camaro, a chevette and a vega. The Vega looked good, the chevette was still a chevette and the Camaro......no comment.

Re: 4x4 bird

When I was up in silver lake Michigan (Closest sand dunes to Ontario) I seen a 1989 Firebird TA covered in sand, normal street tires, license plates, the whole nine yards, but it could've had a 4X4 frame.. I never understood the purpose of it, but it's your car/money..

If they are lifted to fit 26inch bling bling, then no.
If they are lifted to go where other f-bodies cannot, then yes!

i wouldnt waste a good f-body, if u really are serious about a 4x4 f-body then i would get a fiberglass body from this site http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/site.htm

High lift coil springs (JcWhitney sells 'em) and fender trimming should get you at least 31-33" tires under it. Please use a rust free mint body for this so as to **** off as many purists as possible, in twenty years you'll even hate yourself for doing it when the value of your 1500.00 fbods worth 5x that.

ive seen this one old el camino (i'm gonna guess about 68) on a jacked up blazer frame and it looks pretty cool lol
They doo look pretty cool don't they?!?

Even the old K5 Blazers were 104"
1970's-80's fullsize blazer is 112" wheelbase k5/k9 style, not sure of the '60's blazers or the newer s10 based stuff.

the official red neck tire of f body 4x4's the super swamper. and just go on ahead and put mud flaps on, sidepipes, a hitch and cow catcher on the front
To each there own. I'd wanna see Boggers though, tunnel ram straight out the hood, zoomies coming out of the front fenders like an old fighter plane, prerunner bumper w/ lights oh and an aluminum skid plate.

With crossover steering you could use the fbody's steering box, you'd have to do some major unibody reinforcement. I think stacked frames look bad of course its gonna look like a freak anyway so whatever.. you could probably use the stock spring pockets leaf springs stink, coils are better in that you can get more travel, better rates, etc.. Maybe the rear leafs out of a new toyota? pickup would work up front long/thin enough to give a good ride/flex. Fullsize truck leafs don't work good on car/s10 conversions they are oversprung (no suspension movement) ride like junk and bust axle parts if you ever jump it- and why wouldn't you jump something like a 4x4 fbody, otherwise you'd be called a rhedneck and a poser.

Boggers are raucous... Does anyone else have an urge to steal that camaro and tear up some subdivisions whilst blasting kid rock? It's just cryin' out in this Dr. Phil voice "take out that lawn ornament and mail box, drive through that white picket fence, it's okay to let your feelings out" Nice parking brake too, might come in handy the next time at a stop light and a shiney convertible bmw hood gives your camaro that snotty better-than look.

edit- So tar and feather me, other than the back bumper, I think it looks pretty neat.

it okay it's not really a camaro, it a berlinetta. It's the red headed step child of the camaro. it's more like a nice looking firebird. or an ugly ford.

I agree and disagree at the same time,
Yes it would be awesome, there aren't too many like it, a real head turner, depending on where you live would be a real chick magnet. And you could do it out of a waste of f body crappy v6 in a junk yard set for crshing. Ha Ha

but then again
WHY?

no really bro, do what you want just do it tastefully and clean, people will respect a professional adaptation and mechanical ingenuity over a hill!billy torchfest and budlight induced welding with a few tie wraps thrown in for good measure.

Jeezum, those things look like something you'd wake up next to with a hangover, surrounded by beer cans and a welder. I suppose this is what happens when people get drunk around power tools...

Oh well, it entertains me, that's for sure, I think it's kinda cool. More! Any TA's or Camaro's converted into a 6x6? Perhaps videos? Wait-something to really make purists scream- a diesel in a 3rd gen! DUM DUM DAAAAAAAAAAA...

Re: 4x4 bird

actually with all the power diesels are making today i cant imagine a duramax powered camaro being slow with some parts from banks.
look what AUDI did this year at lemans with endurance racing.
camaro + bio-diesel + 800 ft/lbs + green friendly third gens... wow! think of all the coffee shop poon you guys could score

but seriously though a duramax powered f-body would be neat if done as stated in last reply (not lifted ,just diesel) i'm thinking a dark metallic grey iroc on mesh style18's lowered just right ....

Hey those lifted f-body's look pretty sick. I would never do it to my daily driver, but maybe someday I will have the time and money to lift a camaro!

As for now, here is a few ideas my buddy gave me:

Re: 4x4 bird

Why don't you save your camaro for your second atempt. Find something odd ball insted like a old lincoln or fith ave. somthing you can find dirt cheep and nobody realy cares about. prefrably full frame. something that you can be knowen as the first guy who turned one of them into a 4x4

Re: 4x4 bird

I have to get in on this.....I dont think it is such a bad idea....AS LONG AS...it is done right with the tires actually somewhat in the wheel wells and it would have to have a monster engine...however I cannot see tearing up a perfectly good 3rd gen for this...the fiberglass body would be a must or like someone else said a car headed to the crusher(but i think it would be hard to find one that isnt worth saving for a orignal resto)

I know it would be nice to have an fbody to drive in the winter!!!

Re: 4x4 bird

On the lines of doing it to a car no body *here* cares about, do a honda...heh

As to one nobody cares about and hasn't done, go pick up a few does kias and part them up...I'd say a few 100 would cover it
